Wet boards and moisture beneath wood flooring
Wood flooring may cup, swell or retain moisture after an indoor leak. The usable drying approach depends on the flooring construction, finish, underlayment, exposure and condition beneath it. A drying assessment cannot promise that every board will recover its previous shape.
What to discuss before work
Tell the call handler whether the floor is solid wood, engineered wood or unknown, and whether water reached it from above or below. Surface readings alone may not explain the subfloor. Existing mold or contaminated water affects whether a material can reasonably remain.
Scope and next steps
Discuss a monitored drying attempt, removal criteria and what outcome can be evaluated when moisture stabilizes. Sanding, refinishing, board replacement and subfloor repair are excluded. If removal is necessary, agree on that scope separately from installing any new floor.
